It was a chilly, blustery day and the wind caught Kristin's veil in this image and blew it all over.  The result was the kind of wedding photo you just can't set up!  Actually, the wind blew her veil all the way off and it floated about 25 feet in the air. 

This is the kind kind of image you can set up, but thanks to a couple of groomsmen behind me, I got this great smile and expression on Kristin's face.  And it is my favorite portrait of the day!

Jason is very tall, and I almost needed a ladder to get the proper composition with his portrait.    Actually, I did use a ladder!

These two ring bearers don't have blonde hair, but I thought they had a "Dennis the Menace" look in this photograph.

I have seen a lot of churches in the eight years I have shot weddings, but I have never seen one as beautiful as the Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa.

In-between the ceremony and reception we shot some images at the Park Farm Winery near Dyersville.  There were still some leaves and grapes on the vines, and the colors were stunning.

New Photo Album

I just added a new photo album with some favorite images from 2005.  I still need to add more and it doesn't represent all my favorites that year.  Likewise, I need to add text to the gallery with the names of all my clients.  Almost all the images on my business web site are from 2006 but I wanted to showcase some of the greatest hits from 2005.  I will also be adding a 2004 album soon.  On my business web site I don't show my greatest hits over the eight years I have been shooting weddings.  I like to show my most recent work.  But on the blog I can display some favorites from years past.

I liked this image so much I ordered a 20 x 30 print for my gallery!  And when I open my new gallery in Bettendorf, it will be prominently displayed on the wall.  We went to the Red Covered Bridge in Princeton, IL after the ceremony.  It was the perfect setting for some wedding photographs.

I have photographed this bridge several times before while pursuing my own personal artistic endeavors. I have a matted photo of the bridge from a unique perspective hanging in my home.

The late afternoon light in September is almost perfect.  Here is one more of Jennifer and Jim in front of the bridge.

The red covered bridge in Princeton is one of the few that is still in use.  We had to move several times to let cars go through.

Most of my clients prefer our photojounranistic approach to wedding photography.  However, we still do a wide variety of portraits at every event.  This portrait of Jim sitting in the pew was one of my favorite groom images of the day.

This is a more traditional bridal pose of Jennifer I shot outside the church before the ceremony.

This was one of my favorite shots of the day.  I deliberately shot into the sun to add the lens flare to the photo.  It was late in the day, and the shadows were long to add impact to the image.

Jennifer was applying make up at a mirror, and I was trying to unobtrusively shoot some story-telling images.  She looked up and saw me behind her through the reflection in the mirror. I love the expression on her face! 

 

This image of the flower girl was taken as a candid at the country club.  She was standing near a large window at sunset.

Here she is again looking out the same window.  I like the way she is framed around the window panes.

 

The flower girl and ring bearers were getting some instructions from their parents during a formal shot at the altar.

I do travel for weddings, and have worked in many surrounding cities like Serling/Rock Falls, Princeton, Clinton, IA, Des Moines, Muscatine and Galesburg just to name a few.

Sometimes I will get an unintentional photo of myself in action.  This is how I spent New Year's Eve at the River Center in Davenport, Iowa.  Shooting a wedding!

We shot this wedding last August, but I remember the day vividly.  And I remember every wedding that way.

Christ The King Church is one of my favorites for wedding photography.  This image of Amber was taken at the altar with the church spotlights.

Here is a portrait of Amber with some window light in the church.

Here is a portrait of Jim.  Window light makes great shadows across the his face.

Jim is from Chicago, and he and Amber live in the city now.  All the groomsmen are Chicago natives, and I was amused at their attitude toward all the John Deere equipment near The Mark.  They were not condescending, but being from the big city they just don't see $300,000 combines parked near the street!

I always like images we take at the altar you might consider "outside the box."  In other words, they are not traditional altar photos!

Here is a window shot of Kelly at First Congregational.  This church is beautiful and has large windows for some great available light portraits.

And Andy outside the Church.  It was a warm day, and we were able to do a lot of outdoor portraits before it got dark.

Kelly and Andy did all the formal photography before the ceremony.  The day always goes smooth when when couples are willing to "see each other" before the ceremony.  I got this image as Kelly was walking down the aisle to see Andy for the first time in her dress.  It's one of my favorites of the day.

The flower girl was peeking around a pole in the dressing room area, and I captured this image with a long telephoto lens.

After the wedding ceremony we had some extra time, and we went to The Captain's Table, where Andy and Kelly went on their first date.  After the wedding party had a drink at the Captain's Table, we went to The River House in Moline, where I took this shot of everyone enjoying their margarita's!  I had a lot of weddings this year where the Bride and Groom and the Wedding Party stopped at a bar for a drink.  And it was fun!

Kelly and Andy, thank you for being so easy to work with, and also thanks to your family and friends for being so much fun to be with all day!

I had to stop posting messages to the blog in July, because I was behind on post wedding editing and processing.  I am making wholesale changes to my editing process and will be able to deliver my wedding images within two weeks after the wedding in 2007.  I am going to post images from all the weddings from August through December over the winter.  So all the couples with weddings the second half of the year will be featured here at some point over the winter. 

I do have some exciting news!  I will moving into commercial space and opening a full service photography studio in the spring.  The studio will be located on 18th Street in Bettendorf, right next door to Harris Pizza.  The studio will be divided in to three rooms; studio space, gallery and show room, and office. 

We will still have a primary focus on wedding photography, but also expanding our focus into other areas of portrait and "Lifestyle Photography."  I will keep you posted with some pictures on the blog as we get it set up over the winter.
